Section 1.1 Vertex Building Maintenance: Health & Safety Policy

Vertex Building Maintenance is committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace for all workers, clients, contractors, visitors, and members of the public.

The company recognizes that health and safety is a fundamental part of all operations and will take every reasonable precaution to prevent workplace injuries, illnesses, property damage, and environmental harm.


Vertex Building Maintenance is committed to:


  • Complying with all applicable provisions of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and related regulations
  • Providing and maintaining safe equipment, tools, and work procedures
  • Ensuring workers receive proper training, instruction, supervision, and competency evaluation;
  • Identifying, assessing, and controlling workplace hazards before work begins
  • Promoting a culture where all workers have the authority and responsibility to stop unsafe work;
  • Maintaining emergency response and rescue procedures appropriate to the work being performed
  • Encouraging open communication regarding health and safety concerns without fear of reprisal
  • Continuously improving health and safety performance through inspections, reviews, and corrective actions


Management, supervisors, and workers all share responsibility for workplace health and safety.


Management Responsibilities


Management will:


  • Provide leadership and support for the health and safety program
  • Ensure appropriate policies, procedures, and training are in place
  • Provide proper personal protective equipment and ensure its use
  • Investigate incidents, hazards, and near misses
  • Take corrective action where required


Worker Responsibilities


Workers are required to:


  • Work safely and follow company policies and procedures
  • Use required personal protective equipment
  • Report hazards, incidents, and unsafe conditions immediately
  • Refuse unsafe work as permitted under the Occupational Health and Safety Act;
  • Participate in training and safety meetings as required.


No job is so urgent or important that it cannot be completed safely.


This policy applies to all employees, subcontractors, and personnel working on behalf of Vertex Building Maintenance.
